Chemistry of fertilizers

Updated: Nov 10, 2023

Chemistry is also an important factor in the development of agriculture. The molecules nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium play an important role in the growth of a plant, which are called NPK fertilizers. Chemical molecules like nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium have separate jobs for plants to grow safely without any hindrance. We will see in this post what they are.

Nitrogen - Benefits to Plants: -

Nitrogen promotes rapid growth of plants.

Nitrogen helps to keep the leaves of the plant green.

In addition, nitrogen helps plants to produce amino acids, proteins, and chlorophyll.

Sodium nitrate, ammonium sulfate, urea, ammonium nitrate are used as synthetic nitrogen fertilizers.

Cow dung, vegetable waste and green leaves are used as natural nitrogen fertilizers.

Phosphorus - Benefits to Plants: -

Phosphorus helps the plant to bear flowers and fruits. It also strengthens the stem and root areas of the plant.

Calcium phosphate, superphosphate and triple superphosphate are used as synthetic phosphate fertilizers.

Egg shells and bones are used as natural phosphate fertilizers.

Potassium - Benefits to Plants:

Potassium is used by plants to absorb water and nutrients from the soil. It also protects the plants from diseases.

Potassium chloride, potassium nitrate and potassium sulfate are used as synthetic fertilizers.

Cotton seed and banana skin are used as natural fertilizers.

Calcium prevents the fruit from falling off the tree before it ripens.

It is the duty of each and every one of us to protect and restore agriculture on the brink of extinction. I hope you all know about agriculture through this post. Realizing that there is no man without a tree.
